Fiscus originates from a reinterpretation of an object which belongs to the traditional method of producing olive oil. Fusing together handicraft and design, Fiscus regains the use of the Italian “fiscolo”, a basket made of plant fibers (usually coconut or cane) and used as a container for the olive paste before the pressing of the oil. Fiscus takes up the original meaning of the object, presenting a closed container with a circular lid made of olive wood. The materials refer to the substance that for centuries has been the purpose of its use. This design, created by Fernando Longo, means not only reinterpretation, but recovery of an object. The “fiscolo”, now made of raffia only (for reasons regarding the life and maintenance of the object), regains new life and character through the renewed appraise of its functionality and esthetic character.
