L’aleph
The table for bibliophile realized by Fernando Longo draws inspiration from one of the most exciting Borges’s short stories, “The Aleph”. The author himself defines the Aleph as “a point in space that contains all other points. Anyone who gazes into it can see everything in the universe from every angle simultaneously”.
If we think how easy it is to travel and to visit all places on earth through books, it is natural to conceive the Aleph as a table for bibliophile, a sort of harbor for sailing away and for landing, for exploring and being explored, a sort of instrument to measure mental and physical spaces, “one of the point in space that contain all the others”.
The lifting structure of the table reminds the pages of an open book, as a result of the assembly of pieces cut at 45°; the boxes on the surface are provided with little doors with steel and brass plated hinges; on the crystal surface glass is quoted part of the text of the Borges’s Alef with the technique of sandblasting.
